Water

In Vavuniya tests on wellwater has shown excess of hardness proving it unsuitable for drinking. In a school they have installed a 30,000 liter rainwater harvesting/collecting tank. If impurities are present kidney disease will result. It shows the importance of regular & periodical testing of well water in Kokuvil in selected wells in every GS division of Kokuvil. The local body should arrange this by collaborating with  NWSD. Local body should encourage rainwater harvesting in homes.
In addition to this storm water,after rains simply flows to the sea. Can't we collect it in a reservoir similar to Iranaimadu in Kilinochi?. House building has continued without considering rainwater collection. In some countries they cultivate 3 times a year but in Jaffna only once during rainy season and in Kilinochi for the second season they give little water depending on availability of  water in Iranaimadu. We should build a reservoir in the northern side (Kondavil) of Nanthavil farmland to store water for 2 seasons at least. Nowadays if it rains excessively flooding results & if less rain no crop because rainwater is allowed to flow to the sea by a Dutch built canal flowing near the Nanthavil farm land.Water purification is done by RO in Anuradhapura.
