Farm lands in Jaffna

In the past we have seen valuable farm lands being used for housebuilding may be because those who donot have funds to buy a piece of land had no alternative as well as weakness of jaffna people(not willing to go to wanni and settle but like to live closer to relatives). Population increase demand more farm lands. The solution is already being practiced in many countries. They have started "rooftop gardens"-on flat concrete roof they fill earth and plant vegetables in homes. Also on large scale they have started "vertical farms"- in multi-storeyed buildings they plant vegetables,fruits,grains,flowers , yams etc for sale. This saves money in transporting goods from far-away places,saves fuel,saves wear on roads etc. If marketing is a problem local bodies can form farmers associations for every village buy lorries and transport their produce to markets outside the province.
